star2Coventry Transport Museum: Mad Science Workshop 1, 10.00 and 13.00

Electricity and Heat: Learn all about electricity, its properties and its role in all kinds of natural phenomena. Make indoor lightning whilst conducting hair-raising experiments with an electro-static generator. Witness a mini rocket launch and learn the properties of heat. Change the state of matter by turning solid candy into floss and making your own cotton candy that you can eat! You will also receive an activity to take with you and do at home. This workshop must be pre-booked and paid for in advance. It is suitable for children aged 5+. Sessions last 1 hour. £6 per session. £30 for all 5 Mad Science Workshops, including a Transport Museum goody bag if all sessions are booked.

This full week Dance Summer School gives enthusiastic beginners and dancers with some experience the chance to try a range of dance styles including creative, contemporary, ballet, tap, jazz and freestyle and work towards an end of week dance showcase in mac’s Theatre.
This years theme is ‘The Sea’, think beach parties, pirate adventures, exploring life under the sea, mermaids and sea monsters or just messing about in boats! No previous experience is necessary – just bring plenty of enthusiasm.
The week will include some practical art activities to produce the set backdrop for the performance. Please wear a leotard or loose, comfortable clothing for the dance sessions and bring an old apron for the performance. Students should meet in the Parkside Room at 9.40am on Monday to register and change, ready for a warm-up at 10am. Students must be collected from the Dance Studio at the end of each day, unless otherwise agreed with the Education Department.
Students will work towards a performance for parents and friends on Friday 10 August at 2pm in the Theatre. 2 tickets per course attendee will be issued when booking a place in the Dance School.
Tutors include: Clare Palethorpe, Kate Inns and Rose Gordon, Visual artist: Penny Mason and Elle Hockington. Fee: £67.50 Code: DSC1A – 6-9yrs, DSC1B – 10-12yrs, DSC1C – 13-16yrs. Front of House Assistants will accompany students at lunchtime. Please bring a packed lunch.

Learn how to look after your bicycle, refit the wheel, repair a puncture and more! These training courses will take place in small groups led by a team of Nationally Qualified Cycle Training Instructors from Coventry City Council. Children taking part will need a packed lunch. You are welcome to bring your own bicycle along but we will supply bicycles to work on. Parents are welcome to accompany their children - who knows you might learn something too! This is your chance to find out how the Romans dealt with the tribal civilisation they found when they arrived in Britain. You can also find out how the Celts reacted to their new hosts - Hadrian's Wall might give you a hint!
