To the Chief Constable of the North-Riding of the County of York, and to all Constables, Parish and Peace Officers, in the said Riding,and especially to William Stones Constable of the Township of Catle Bolton
To wit. By Virtue of my Office, These are in Her Majesty's Name to charge and command you on sight hereof, you summon and warn thirteen able and sufficient Men of your several Townships, personally to appear before me on Saturday the twenty ninth Day of August 1868 by 12.30 of the Clock in the after noon at the House of John Storey in the said Township of Castle Bolton in the said Riding, then and there to do and execute all such things that shall be given them in charge, on the behalf of our Sovereign Lady the Queen, touching the death of David Plews. And for your so doing, this is your Warrant. And that you also attend at the time and place above-mentioned, to make a Return of the Names of those you shall so summon. And further, to do and execute such other matters as shall be then and there enjoined to you, and have you then and there this Warrant. Given under my Hand and Seal, this 28th Day of August One Thousand Eight Hundred and sixty eight.

To the Coroner of Northallerton Ward, in the North Riding of Yorkshire
I hereby give you notice, that the body of a Man aged about 60 years is lying dead at Castle Bolton in the above Ward.

Time of Death, 5am on the 28th day of August 1868
Persons present (if any) at the time of the Sudden Death, or of the Accident or Injury which caused the Death? None
Supposed cause of death; especially stating if there is any supposition of violence, negligence or blame against any one; if any, and what marks of vioence on the Body: together with any other particulars regarding the matter?
Last night the deceased appeared to be quite well and about 5am this morning Mary Plews found him suspended by the neck with a rope froma ladder in the old Castle ... dead.
If the death was a sudden one, had the person previously been attended by a Medical man?
A short time back attended by Matthew Willis
If the Death was caused by an Accident, how long did the person live after it? and was he in consequence attended by a Medical Man? No
